Text Box: LEAH HOOVER MEMORIAL RIDE - SEPT. 18, 2005
- Welcome to the 2005 Leah Hoover Memorial Ride!                                                                                                                                                                                      - Today, you are riding in the name of Leah Hoover.
- Today you are riding in the name of someone who loved people.
- Today you are riding in the name of someone who loved children.
- Today you are riding in the name of someone who loved her community.
- Today you are riding in the name of someone who loved life.
- Leah was such a person.
                                            * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
- We cannot undo the terrible event that took her from us this past February.
- But we can use that event as a spring board to do things in her name and in her memory:
- things that she would be proud of,
- things that she would give her name and time to,
- things she would do herself,
- things she would do because she believed in people,
- and she cared about her community and the people who lived around her.
- Things such as spearheading a drive to raise funds for a 2nd Thermal Imaging Camera that will help police and
firefighters and rescue workers in the search for victims and those who are lost.
- That is what this Memorial Ride is all about.
- Caring about the things Leah cared about.
- In that way, her love for our community lives on in each one of us
- Remember that as each mile goes by today.
- You are doing this for Leah because she cared.
- You are doing this for the community she cared about.
- What further reason do we need!
(Let us pause for a moment of prayer before the ride begins)
Heavenly Father, we pray for a real sense of purpose today as we ride these miles in memory of Leah Hoover. Thank you for the person that she was, and the love that she gave to us as individuals and as a community. Help us indeed to remember with each and every mile that Leah's love for her community is being extended through us. Grant us safety on the road today. Grant us your presence in all our tomorrows, through Jesus Christ our Lord we pray. AMEN
GENTLEMEN & LADIES...START your ENGINES!

Text Box: UPDATE on the BMW Folding Mountain Bike Raffle

This BMW mountain bike valued at nearly $1,000 was donated by Bob Reffner, a Sprint employee, to raffle off with the proceeds benefiting our memorial fund.  The raffle raised $1,625.00!  Steve Yohn of Shade Gap was the lucky winner!
The bike has an exclusive BMW Q3.S design.  Weighing only 32 pounds, this 24-speed bike can be disassembled in minutes to fit into its over-the-shoulder nylon carrying case.  Shimano Alivo components and a Selle Bassano saddle are just some of the things that make this bike an incredibly versatile riding machine.
Sprint assisted by providing us with approximately 80 twenty-minute phone cards and arranging for delivery of the bike.  The phone cards will be added to "Care Packages" being made by the students and staff at South Hills School of Business and Technology in Altoona.  The "Care Packages" are being sent to a local troop, the 1-32nd 10th Mountain Division, that will be deployed again between Christmas and New Year's Day.  Sergeant Brandon E. Adams of this troop, whose mother, Carol, is on the staff at South Hills School of Business and Technology in Altoona died due to injuries received while serving on duty.
Sprint also supported  us by printing the tickets and  many of the Sprint employees assisted by selling tickets.
We certainly wish to express our sincerest gratitude to Bob Reffner, Sprint, and Sprint employees for this wonderful donation!
